Stellar RPC, a rebranded version of Soroban RPC, has been introduced to provide developers with real-time access to the Stellar network, superseding the need for the extensive Horizon infrastructure. Unlike its predecessor, Stellar RPC is not limited to just smart contracts but aims to serve as a comprehensive data access point for all Stellar applications. The replacement comes amidst growing network activity and aims at reducing operational complexity while fulfilling the evolving requirements of the Stellar ecosystem. Horizon, which maintains an extensive historical database, is considered increasingly impractical for many applications due to the high maintenance costs and inefficiencies. As network demands increase, Stellar RPC, along with the new Composable Data Platform, is set to revolutionize data access on the Stellar network, offering a lighter, more tailored developer experience. Future plans include further updates and enhancements to ensure that Stellar RPC adequately supports the needs of its developers.
